BIPERSONAL PSYCHODRAMA: ITS TECHNIQUES, THERAPISTS, AND CLIENTS

SUMMARY:

Bipersonal psychodrama is a therapeutic approach that originated from psychodrama. It does not use auxiliary egos and works with only one client at a time, creating a bipersonal relationship – one client and one therapist. In a very easy language it points out some theoretical questions related to psychodrama, for instance the idea that the “psychodrama a deux “, as Moreno called this modality of psychotherapy, isn’t a “minor” therapeutic approach nor necessarily just a preparation for group therapy, as many authors presume.
For the author the bipersonal psychodrama constitutes a very rich tool but demands some creative innovations to the classical group psychodrama techniques. She proposes the use of cushions or other objects from around the room to set complementary roles and then the use of all the classical technique. She defines each technique, aims at clarifying the directions, and gives examples of their correct usage following the steps of the Morenian psychodrama since the warming up, the dramatization until the sharing. This is not a recipe book of sorts, but the author is not ashamed to say that it was designed to offer “tips” to young therapists and to rescue the importance of the bipersonal set.

Result of nine years of research, and organized like a dictionary, this book will be of great help to teachers and students of psychology who study Group Psychotherapy, Sociometry and Psychodrama, topics on which Moreno was a precursor.

EMOTIONAL SURVIVAL :CHILDHOOD PAIN RELIVED IN THE DRAMA OF ADULT LIFE.

SUMMARY:

The relational and emotional needs of babies and small children, when not systematically met, will generate feelings of low self-esteem, shame and humiliation. These feelings will remain at the core of the personality, covered up in various forms, ranging from a hurt child living inside an adult’s body or a ‘false self’ of an apparently successful and narcissistic adult, or even like the complex borderline disorder in case of which the individual pushes away the people they need most. This book presents powerful techniques that can be applied in an intense therapeutic relationship, which help bring into the light this ‘ghost-child’ and enable reparatory work of the childhood wounds. It is a must-read for all therapists, teachers and relatives of adults and adolescents who struggle with childhood issues of abandonment, abuse and violence.

Books is a session of Rosa Cukier’s site where she presents and sell her books. She published 3 books:

BIPERSONAL PSYCHODRAMA: ITS TECHNIQUES, THERAPISTS, AND CLIENTS

This book, as the author says, “is not a kind of recipe book “, but “it was designed to offer ‘tips’”. It will be extremely useful to the psycodramatists in general, and certainly a success among the beginners. Rosa Cukier is a rare example of a professional who came from psychoanalysis to psychodrama, the most common being the reverse direction.

She carefully approaches and describes the warming-up process, the dramatization and the sharing, in addition to searching for the psychodynamics of the symptoms and conflicts. She assimilates all the theoretical influences and creates a personal way of building her psychotherapeutic skills, obtaining balance between action and word, not the mere cathartic doing, nor the intellectualized talking.

She is a contemporary psychodramatist who emphasizes the importance of individual psychotherapy (in contrast to Moreno), and uses psychodramatic action while taking into account other important advances in this century psychology.

EMOTIONAL SURVIVAL: Childhood pain revived in adult drama.

Emotional needs of babies and small children, when not systematically fulfilled, generate low self-esteem, shame, humiliation that will stay in the core of the personality like a hurt child, living inside an adult body.

These feelings may be hidden in several forms, from an apparently successful and narcissist adult “false-self” to the dysfunctional borderline behavior that moves away the people they need the most.

In “Emotional Survival” Rosa Cukier shows powerful techniques for an intense therapeutic relationship, that helps to bring light to this “ghost child” and enables ways to repair childhood wounds.

Therapists, teachers and relatives of adults and adolescents with issues of abandonment, abuse and violence must not miss this book.

About Rosa Cukier I have just to say that she is the competence itself, filled with the emotion expected from an author and a therapist. This book is a complete and consequent speech that does not escape, in any moment, the urgent call of misery.

THE WORDS OF JACOB LEVY MORENO: Vocabulary of Quotations from Psychodrama,Group Psychotherapy, Sociodrama and Sociometry

Moreno, as you have probably already noticed, is a complex writer, even prolix with a writing style midway between philosophy, religion, literature and experimental science.   Some parts of his theories seem inconclusive or contradictory, allowing different interpretations; certain concepts are quoted only once in a whole book and never again; others are repeated exhaustively, giving the impression that the author is copying himself; texts are presented in diagram form for better comprehension sometimes making them doubly confusing; poems and metaphors are also used to clarify ideas.

All this, together with a type of belligerent attitude of liking to oppose classical philosophers, psychologists, and economists such as Spinosa, Freud and Marx for example – Moreno uses to criticize parts of these works presenting Sociometry as if it were the truth about the subject in question, and obliging the reader to read the work referred to in order to check the properties of Moreno’s ideas.

This is a book about Jacob Levy Moreno’s writings. Like a dictionary that gives the right meaning of a word, this vocabulary guides the reader to the right page and the right book where Moreno mentioned his most important concepts. Around 830 concepts can be found in the Portuguese, Spanish and English versions of Moreno’s books.

Rosa Cukier worked 9 years collecting transcribing and giving references and is amazing how her work help researchers, students, writers, anyone that is interested in Psychodrama and Sociometry.

This is the equivalent of Laplanche- Pontalis psychoanalytic dictionary applied to the psychodramatic
